Lyon and Healy Parlor

This one came with the description, "Recently refurbished, re-fretted and restored" from another shop. Nope. Absolutely fucked. The list of stuff done to this little parlour was long and none of it w

as close to right. I know everyone has different way to do stuff, but there is some butchers around. Beware. I found it to be strung up with some heavy guage PB strings, a new oversized bridge had been poorly glued on, a neck reset had been attempted with a bunch of blow out and timber mate added. The top had a huge bit of maple glue to it behind the bridge to try and fix some splits. It ended up just help deform the top some more.

The dyed maple board was split and chipped beyond repair so a new board would be in order down the track. I removed the neck and made piece with the fact it was probably going in the bin. I opened up the box to check out the damage up close. I removed pretty much everything in there apart from the two original braces that were left.

After i make a new neck for it i plan on stringing it up with gut strings so i reinstated the ladder bracing and added a thin section of maple to act as a bridge plate if i ever change my mind and want to put some steel strings on.

I made up some thin spruce cleats to reinforce the number of splits in the top. This was more of an insurance policy than anything. After taking back the finish and cleanin the inside the top was 1.2mm thick. Very thin and fragile. There was some small sections to repair on the back but nothing too drastic, some new linings and i closed up the box again.
