Stop and smell the Floyd Roses

I was having a chat with my highschool Guitar teacher Nick about a guitar he wanted to put together. We went through all the bullet points of what it needed and i kind of just wanted to build it instead of modifiyng a bunch of Warmoth bits. It was standard strat with 24 frets, compound radius, Floyd Rose, EMGs, access heel and a neon blue paint job.

This was the first guitar i had built where i used threaded inserts for the neck screws. One lesson learnt was to make the holes for the ferrules a smidge bigger. One i had put some paint on it was a tight fit and the possibility of chipping out was a nightmare. This was the little access carve i worked out. I tried to lean into the wave look with the blue paint job and i think it transition into the neck carve looked smart.

I put it all together with a before slapping paint on so Nick could have a play and make some decisions about the neck profile. I left it on the medium side so we had plenty to take off. In ended up somewhere between thin and a wizard.

The pickups were just a EMG 81 in the Bridge and SA strat pickups in the middle and neck. One big oversight that i didn't even think about was the accommodating the 24th fret and neck pickup. For the moment we shifted everything down, the neck pickup still sounds like a neck pickups, even though its not the 'perfect' position!

We went back and forth on the paint job, the first colour we picked was a little too seafoam green, it's always hard capturing colour properly in digital images, in the end i was really glad that Nick picked up on it being too light. We just picked a darker more blue green from the chart and shot it over the top.
